Job Title: Paint Operative

Reporting To:  Paint Shop Supervisor


As a Paint Operative you will work within the Production department to prepare surfaces, clean product and apply a layer or layers of paint or coating to protect it from the elements while at the same time ensuring the professional look of the product. As a key member of the Production team you will have the ability to be able to communicate well across the whole team. You will also be able to carry out your role and complete the job to the required quality and standards.


  • To ensure health and safety requirements are met at all times in your work area.

  • Masking and preparation of new manufactured vehicles.

  • Preparation of GRP and aluminium substrates prior to paint.

  • Application of 2k etch & high-build primers.

  • Preparation of primer prior to topcoat.

  • Application of 2k topcoat direct gloss.

  • Ability to use ‘wet on wet’ system when required.

  • Understanding of livery drawings and ability to lineout.

  • Ability to rectify flaws and imperfections in topcoat.

  • Knowledge of colour identification and formulation on computerised mixing scheme.

  • To regulate the temperature and air circulation in drying ovens.

  • To tend equipment.

  • To observe and adjust gauges.

  • To operate the spray gun to apply touch-ups.



  • Experience in working in a commercial automotive paint shop / full body spraying.

  • A keen eye for detail.

  • Good knowledge of Health and Safety practices.

  • Good knowledge of the working area.

  • Ability to manage your time effectively.

  • Good organisational skills.

  • Ability to plan and forecast.

  • Good knowledge of quality standards and legal compliance.

  • Good knowledge of the timescales required for booth maintenance and manage these with the Facilities team.

  • Ability to create master templates for the design of paint schemes.


  • Competent and worked in a warehousing environment previously.

  • Be familiar with good housekeeping practices e.g. the 5s (sort, straighten, shine, standardise, sustain).

  • Ability to make decisions and solve problems.


  • Ability to be flexible and adapt to operational needs and changes.

  • Must have a positive “can do” attitude.

  • Ability to work within a team.

  • Must be motivated and driven to ensure tasks are completed within the required timescales and to the expected standards.
