Job Title: Head of Marketing and Events

Status: Full Time

Department: Commercial

Location: Based at Sherburn-in-Elmet, with the need to travel as required.

Reporting to: Commercial Director

JOB PURPOSE

To lead Optare’s marketing, events and communications in UK & export markets in line with company strategy and agreed budgets.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Contribute to the development of Optare’s product & market strategy.

  • Define global marketing communications plan in line with strategy.

  • Shape & execute key decision maker relationship development programmes.

  • Create an innovative corporate event programme

  • Develop and agree the marketing budget.

  • Work with internal & external stakeholders to deliver the comms plan in line with budget.

  • Coach & support international distribution in local messaging & marketing channels.

  • Deliver market research as required to support strategic development.

  • Develop new communications channels where appropriate.

  • Represent the company at key communications events.

  • Network with key industry bodies to build market intelligence.

  • Be our lead interface with UITP and C40

  • Lead on trademark registration around the world in line with our export plan

  • Lead on our campaign to secure highest levels of recognition for our products; Queens Award and Industry/Trade Awards

ESSENTIAL /DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS  INCLUDING REQUIRED QUALIFCATIONS

Essential

  • Strategic thinker with a creative flair in marketing communications

  • Analysis and insight. Has the ability to deliver executive level briefing papers/ presentations

  • Cultural awareness and customer facing approach

  • Excellent time management and organisational skills

  • Effective communication, verbal and written.

  • Competent in computer skills incl. Microsoft Office (Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, Word).

  • Car driving licence.

  • A focus on quality & timely output.

Desirable

  • Direct experience of the UK bus industry via the supply chain or direct with Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs)

  • Degree (or equivalent) qualified in a marketing or commercial discipline

  • International travel may be required.

This is a senior role in the business and it thus comes with some clear Personal Development requirements and support to enable the incumbent to progress to an Executive Director position:

Attend IoD Certificate in Company Direction within next 18 months; course paid for by Optare

Secure by agreement an external mentor to guide to next level.
