A landmark moment has been celebrated in York today (14 August) as it has become the first UK city outside London to trial a new fully electric double decker bus.

At a special ceremony, family-owned Safeguard Coaches of Guildford has named the latest addition to its fleet, a new Optare Metrocity, after long-serving staff member Linda Chambers, who has recently retired after 28 years’ service. Optare, Regional Sales Manager, Chris Hunt, handed over the newly named Metrocity to Safeguard’s longest serving employee Emilio Dubra who joined the operator 31 years ago in 1986 (pictured).

Manchester Airport Group has added four airport specification Optare Tempos to its fleet, three of the vehicles feature two doors and one of the vehicles three doors to speed up boarding and alighting time.
