Optare’s Metodecker EV currently in-service trials with Go-Ahead London, took a break from its duties to make an appearance at the Ace Café London as part of an EV Owners meet on Saturday. The event, part of the café’s 80th anniversary celebrations was the first ever Electric Vehicle Owners Meet at the café and featured the latest designs in electric cars and motorbikes as well as Optare’s innovative electric bus.
Robert Drewery, Commercial Director, Optare, said, “We were delighted to be asked to take part in this event promoting electric vehicles and highlighting to the public what is really possible with battery electric power. Many were surprised to learn the Optare double decker was fully electric and interested to hear about the air quality improvements such vehicles can bring.”
Graham Johnson, Go-Ahead London, New Cross, General Manager speaking about the trail of the Metrodecker EV said. “As one of the major bus operators in London we are committed to finding solutions to reduce air pollution. We are currently monitoring how the Optare Metrodecker EV responds to London traffic and how it effects the amount of power used on various duties. The fully electric double deck has a passenger capacity of 99 and is being trialled on route 36, one of the busiest routes in London, which provides an excellent testing ground for this kind of vehicle.”
