luxurious level of interior fit and finish and
good build quality have led Midlands operator
Thandi Coaches to add an Optare Toro 32-seat
midi-coach to their growing fleet.
Avi Thandi, who runs the family-owned business
based in Smethwick, says that the Toro is
meeting all their expectations and is proving
something of a flagship vehicle too.
“We bought it primarily to use on the
corporate hire side of our business,” he says.
“And it’s already being very well received
by our customers leading to increased bookings
for other vehicles in our fleet.
“We’ve been using it alongside our prestige
executive cars and stretched limousines and
it’s proving a real match for them in terms of
the quality image it projects. The metallic
paint finish and extra marker lights give it a
very distinctive and high class appearance. Air
suspension on the rear axle ensures a soft ride.
And internally the standard of finish, with
comfortable seats and extensive use of soft
trim, results in a quiet and pleasant travelling
environment.”
Thandi Coaches’ new Toro has 32 Esteban Irati
high-back seats with leather inserts to the
headrests and fitted with three-point inertia
reel seatbelts. Individual reading lamps and
forced air vents are housed in the overhead
luggage rack, which runs the full length of the
saloon. A roof-mounted drop-down LCD screen and
DVD player provide entertainment on the move.
The coach complies with the Euro 4 emission
standard and meets growing pressure from airport
operators for coaches that regularly visit their
airports to satisfy the highest environmental
standards. The Toro is based on the well proven
Mercedes-Benz 0816D Vario chassis, which is
powered by a 4.25 litre, four cylinder engine
using SCR technology to achieve the Euro 4
standard.
This is matched to a six-speed ZF manual
gearbox, which Avi Thandi says gives a smooth
change and good spread of ratios to ensure
optimum performance in all conditions. “Our
drivers enjoy driving the Toro for its ease of
driving and because it’s got plenty of power
but yet is very quiet,” he says.
“We also felt it would continue to look good
and perform well over a number of years as our
experience with other Optare coach products has
shown them to be well built and long-lasting.”
